The
Struan
was a ship which sank in front of Camp Meriwether on Christmas of 1890
when the property was owned by the Chamberlands. They hauled the anchors
and some chain out of the water, and the capstan used to work the anchors
was removed from the ocean in the 1950's. The ship was hauling a cargo
of lumber which was put to good use by the Chamberland's as well as others
in the area.
