July 2002, Ape Caves
We went to the Ape Caves, which is a lava tube cave near
Mt. St. Helens.
We had several scouts:
Kyle L,
Curtis M,
Sean M,
and
Jacob P.
The adults were
Gary H,
Alan M,
and
Jay P.
 | Scout Motto? Be Prepared. The couple climbing up the rock-pile
behind us were trying to walk through the caves without a flashlight.
|
| |
 | Ask Jay, he'll tell you it was fun!
|
| |
 | A large, slick chunk of rock that had fallen from the cave ceiling.
| Mini stalactites.
| |
 | The "Frozen Waterfall."
|
| |
 | |
| |
 | Watch your step, there's no telling how deep some of the spaces
under those rock are!
| Up.
| |
 | Up!
|
| |
 | We ran into a Venture Scout group coming through the
caves from the other side. Luckily they reached this vertical climb before
we did, so we studied their moves carefully!
