July 2002, Ape Caves

Page 3

We went to the Ape Caves, which is a lava tube cave near Mt. St. Helens.

We had several scouts: Kyle L, Curtis M, Sean M, and Jacob P. The adults were Gary H, Alan M, and Jay P.

Scout Motto? Be Prepared. The couple climbing up the rock-pile behind us were trying to walk through the caves without a flashlight.
Ask Jay, he'll tell you it was fun!
A large, slick chunk of rock that had fallen from the cave ceiling. Mini stalactites.
The "Frozen Waterfall."
Watch your step, there's no telling how deep some of the spaces under those rock are! Up.
Up!
We ran into a Venture Scout group coming through the caves from the other side. Luckily they reached this vertical climb before we did, so we studied their moves carefully!
